Communicate with the Virtual Patient

Talking with the patient is a key part of any clinical encounter. It’s how you collect the right history, clarify symptoms, and decide what to do next as the scenario evolves.

In certain scenarios, you may also have the option to communicate with the patient’s family, caregiver, chaperone, or another healthcare professional.

To communicate with your virtual patient in a Body Interact simulation, use the Dialogues menu. You can communicate in two ways:

  • Pre-defined questions
Choose from a structured list of questions created by the scenario author.
  • AI-Driven Conversations:
Type or speak freely. Just like you would with a real patient.

Communicate with pre-defined questions

When you use a pre-defined list of questions, you’ll typically find categories like:

To pick your preferred option, you can switch it in:

  • Greeting and Introduction: Introduce yourself to the patient and confirm their details, helping maintain a patient safety culture.
  • History Taking: Ask about the chief complaint, history of present illness, past medical history, medications, allergies, family history, and social history.
  • Education: Provide health information, instructions, and skill development, tailored to the scenario’s goals.

While the questions are pre-defined by the scenario author, the patient’s answers may vary depending on their evolving condition. For example, if a patient is initially in pain and you administer pain medication, they may later report feeling better.
